Abstract

183,042. Roberts, A. J. July 27, 1921. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Fluid governors.-A governor dependent on the velocity and pressure of the exhaust gases of an engine comprises an apertured piston 2 sliding in a cylinder 1 through which pass the exhaust gases from the inlet 7 to the outlet 10. The piston is normally controlled by a spring 5 and is connected to a valve 3 controlling the inlet 7 and to the engine throttle by the rod 4. Over-speeding of the engine results in an increase of exhaust pressure and velocity, thereby moving the piston 2 to the left and effecting a reduction of throttle and exhaust openings. A single skirted piston with a port in the skirt wall registering with the inlet 7 may be used.
