Abstract
182,815. Soc. AlsaciennÚ de Constructions MÚcaniques. July 9, 1921, [Convention date]. Mules.- In a mule having a driving-shaft rotating at a constant speed, such as is described in Specification 162,629, the rollers are driven at two different speeds during the outward run. At the commencement of the run they are driven at a low speed from the shaft A, Fig. 1, through the clutch E, E', gearing J, K, L, M, and ratchet 0, later the clutch E, E' is opened the clutch F, F<1> closed and the roller shaft D is driven direct at a higher speed. The clutch parts E, F and gear G to drive the carriage are on a sleeve on the shaft D. The clutch part E<1> and gears J, M, are loose on the shaft. The ratchet-wheel 0 is keyed to the shaft and the pawl N carried by the gear M is controlled by a flat spring P mounted friction-tight on the ratchet-wheel. The clutch E, E<1> is closed by a lever I controlled by the cam H<1>. The lever S controlling the clutch F, F<1> is prevented from movement until the appropriate time by a bar T, Fig. 3, on the carriage, which has a recessed part T' to allow movement of the lever. The low speed then becomes inoperative as the spring P releases the pawl from the ratchet-wheel.
