Reservoir pens.- In a fountain pen of the nib-retracting type, the revoluble head-piece or other part of the pen body is coupled to the rod for actuating the nib-carrying stem by a spring pawl, so that when the nib has reached its limit of travel the revoluble part slips upon the rod on further rotation. The rod j, integral with a helically slotted tube b, passes through a cork gland l in a tubular member k partly screwed into the barrel a. The upper end of the rod j is provided with a longitudinal groove m and a circumferential groove n to accommodate a cruciform pawl. The cross arms o of the pawl are entered into the circumferential groove n, and the lower arm o<1> is entered into the longitudinal groove m, the upper arm being bent at its upper end to form a flange o<2>. The head p is provided with a vertical slot r, and an horizontal circular cavity q which receives the flange o<2> of the pawl; the top of the rod j is provided with a recess s into which the flange is flexed whilst the head is slid over the rod in assembling. Operative connection between the head and rod is made by the arm o<1> of the pawl engaging the slot r in the head, and when the nib h is fully projected or retracted anv further rotation of the head causes the pawl arm and slot to disengage. The nib-carrying stem f is provided with a lateral projection e which moves vertically in a longitudinal groove d in the barrel a and is also engaged by a helical slot in the sleeve b.
