Chimney and ventilating-shaft tops.- A cowl for smoke, ventilation, and like flues is arranged so that external air entering it ascends in a whirl in the form of a helix of upwardly - increasing radius in order to induce a draught. The form shown comprises a body b surmounted by a cap a and having air inlets d with intake hoods c arranged to direct the air upwardly in a helical current in the outwardlyflaring annular space between the body b and an inner member g carried by the cap.
