Abstract
180,992. Monard, A. May 30, 1921, [Convention date]. Electric operation and control; spring control. - Siding points, reversed when trailed through, are operated by an electric motor which is actuated by high-tension current passing through a solenoid 50, indication of the points being obtained by low tension current which does not pass through the coil 50. The motor 1 is coupled to a rod 5 and lever 6 which engages stops 10, 11 on the stretcher-bar 9, a toggle spring 14 being also connected to the pin 8 that connects the rod 5 and lever 6. The electric motor operates the points through a clutch to permit the points to be trailed through, the motor connections being however reversed at the same time. The motor is controlled by a handle 42 operating a cam 43 which lifts the stem 44 of an armature 48, the armature being retained by its coil 50, which is energized at first through a switch 51 closed by the cam 43 and then through contacts 45 carried by the stem 44, contacts 61 of a fly-over switch 54 actuated by the cam 43, and commutator contact 35 of the motor. Contacts 35, 36 are normally closed, one being opened in each extreme position of the motor, whilst contacts 33, 34 are normally open. When the stem 44 is down, it closes contacts 46 which earth the motor windings through switches 54, 58, and it also closes contacts 47 so that low-tension current passes through the transformer 71, switch 54, and contact 34 or 35 to a coil 62, which obscures the :red disc of a miniature signal and opens the switch 67 of a buzzer 72. The disc is visible and the buzzer sounds when this circuit is broken, that is when the points are half open, when they have been trailed through, or when they have been operated manually by a handle on one of the motor shafts. The points can be reversed in mid-stroke. Two or more control elements can be coupled together and interlocked, the handles 42 operating cams with hollows engaged by the rounded ends of an intermediate rod.
