Abstract

429,255. Electrically-tripped switches. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE, Baden, Switzerland. Aug. 23, 1933, No. 23436. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 9, 1934]. [Class 38 (v)] A quick make and break electrically-tripped water or other switch has a " make " spring c and a "break" spring d which are successively energized and then held latched by rotation of a crank disc o, either by hand or by a motor, through one revolution. The disc o has a crank and connecting rod m the lower pivoted end of which bears against the top of a tube g. An extension of the pivoted end also enters the tube g so as to be guided by it. The tube g carries a sleeve h with eyes z to receive the forked end of a bell-crank lever f, and the lower end of the tube g is pivoted to a bell-crank lever e to which the ends of the springs c and d are connected. The lever f which is connected by links i, k to the movable contacts b is latched in the position shown by a latch r. When the disc o is rotated through 180‹, the connecting rod m and tube g move downwards straining the spring c, the lever e being latched in its lowest dotted position by a latch s. Continued rotation through another 180‹ strains the spring d the upper end of which is attached to the pivoted end of the connecting rod m. The disc o is then held by a latch t. Energization of the electromagnet p releases latch r allowing spring c to pull down lever f to close the switch. Energization of electromagnet q then releases the latch s allowing spring d to raise lever e and with it tube g and lever f to open the switch.
