Abstract

517,518. Operating railway &c. points. BURNS, J. S. June 30, 1938, No. 19437. [Class 104 (i)] Railway &c. points are moved to normal and reverse positions by successive energizations of a single solenoid from an overhead conductor 6. Near the points the low collector 5 leaves the wire 6 and engages first a long conductor 7 and then a short one 8. When it engages 7, current passes from 6 to 7 through a relay 9, which lifts a switch 11 from contact 12 to contact 13. The collector then engages 8, when current passes from 6 through 9, 7, 5, 8 to solenoid 14, the armature 16 of which then moves the points. The armature is pivoted to a V-shaped member 32 provided with hooked ends 42, 43 adapted to engage, during successive energizations of 14 the opposite ends of a lever 38 fixed to a spindle 35 carrying an arm 36 connected to the points rod 37. During its rocking movement, a lug 40 on the lever rocks 32 to a position to engage the other end of 38 so that the points are reversed during the next energization of 14. During its movement the lever 38 through a rod 44 moves a toggle switch 17, 18 to break the circuit of the coil 14, and springs 30 turn extension 16 to normal position.
