Abstract

238,515. Grosse, C. Aug. 18, 1924, [Convention date]. Automatic circuit-breakers. - Electromagnetically released overload cut-outs in the form of screw-down fuses have two members which are brought into contact successively, one of the members being tripped on overload. As shown in Fig. 1, the operating handle, a is arranged to rotate an upper insulating disc c bearing a contact d, the disc c having a pin s working in a semi-circular slot l in a lower disc e bearing a contact d<2>. The disc e is held against a spring f by the notched core g of an electromagnet h pressed upwards by a spring i. When abnormal current flows through the coil h the core i is sucked inwards, releasing the disc e, which is moved by the spring from position 2, Fig. 2, to position 2<a>, so breaking the circuit at contacts d<2>, d'. To re-latch the disc e the upper disc c is moved by the handle from position 1 to position 1<a>, so driving the disc e back to position 2, the handle then being turned back through 80‹ to bring the disc c back to position 1, so completing the circuit at contacts d. d<1>. In a modified form the operating handle a is formed integral with the cover-plate b of the cut-out, the disc e being retained set by a pivoted spring-controlled magnetic detent acted upon by an iron cored solenoid.
