Abstract
179,780. Walters, F. J. April 7, 1921. Frame construction; springs, arrangement of.- In a motor-cycle side-car of the kind in which the body framework serves also as the chassis, the framework comprises a central tube connected by tubes to a suitably-shaped ring of tubes situated above it, other tubes being provided to connect the central tube and ring of tubes to the cycle. The panelling is secured directly to the framework. As shown, the central tube 1 is curved upwards at one end 3 for attachment to the cycle, and is secured at its other end to a transverse tube 2, the ring of tubes 5 being connected to the tube 1 by a tube 6 and to the tube 2 by an inverted U-tube 7. The tubes 2, 7 are connected to the cycle by tubes 8, 10, and the ring 5 may be connected to the end 3 of the tube 1. The wheel axle 16 is carried by a member 15 which is connected to a frame member 12 by links 13, 14 controlled by a spring 18. In a modification, the tube 1 is curved upwards at both ends for connection to the ring 5, and a U-tube is connected at its ends to the ring 5 and at its centre to the tube 1. The wheel axle may be carried by a hinged link normally vertical and controlled by a spring.
