Abstract

180,791. Tavener, E. E. March 16, 1921- Spring devices.-A spring suspension for a vehicle wheel, such as the front or rear wheel of a bicycle, comprises an arm pivoted to the vehicle frame, forks, &c., a flat or laminated spring rigidly secured at one end to the arm and at the other end supported on the frame or other part such as a mudguard fixed thereto, and a pair of links pivoted together and carrying the wheel spindle, one of the links being connected to the forks and the other to the free end of the pivoted arm. As shown, a pair of arms 4 are mounted on a spindle 3 mounted on the front forks 15 of a bicycle and are connected at their free ends by links 16 to links 18 pivoted at 19 to the forks. The spring 6, which is of greater length than the arms 4, is rigidly secured thereto by a bolt 7 and distancepiece 8, and is connected at its free end by a shackle 9 to the mudguard 13, or may slide between a pair of rollers on the mudguard. The spring 6 may be arranged as shown in dotted lines, and a spiral or other spring may be provided between the head of the bolt 7 and arm 4 or spring 6.
