Abstract
179,542. Sch÷nfeldt, H. May 2, 1921, [Convention date]. Cam-gears; valve-spindles and valve-spindle guides; beat or lift valves.-Coaxial admission and exhaust valves 6, 7 with spindles 8, 9 carrying rollers 13, 14 engaging oscillating cams 11, 13 on common shafts 10 are arranged in removable covers 5 at the ends of the steam-chest. The seats of the valves 6 are arranged on separate bushes 20, which also carry guides 20<1>, inserted in the bore of the covers which carry the guides of the hollow spindles 9. The valves are held down by spring or fluid pressure. The ends of the spindles are provided with pistons 8<1>, 9<1> whereby fluid pressure supplied to the chambers 26 raises the valves from their seats and puts the cylinder ends in communication. The valves may be operated indirectly by the cams, and the exhaust valve spindles may pass through the admission valve spindles. Cylinders with pistonvalve chests may be modified for lift valves.
