Abstract
179,347. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., and Clinker, R. C. Feb. 19, 1921. Addition to 135,932. Receiving sets, construction of; thermionic amplifiers and detectors; aerials; directive signalling.-In a portable set of the kind described in the parent Specification in which a receiving coil is wound on a frame containing the instruments, three improvements are made to increase the range of wave-lengths for which the set may be used. (a) Tappings are taken from the receiving coil 1 and led to contact springs 2 projecting into an aperture in an insulating block. A conducting rod 3 with an insulating handle slides in the aperture so as to short-circuit one or more sections of the receiving coil. (b) Tappings 5 are taken from the reaction coil 4 and a switch 6 is arranged as shown to make contact with one of them to short-circuit more or less of the coil. (c) A switch 8 is provided so that the tuning condenser 7 may be put in series or parallel with the coil 1 when an aerial is used.
