Abstract

178,959. King, H. C. Feb. 1, 1921. Spray carburettors.-Fuel fed to a channel b in the choke tube issues through a number of holes or through the annular jet c' and mixes with air flowing over the doubly-coned valve e, the mixture passing through the narrowing sleeve c to the flared end. The side of the cone may be curved as shown or straight, the choke tube being correspondingly shaped. With the valve seated on the choke tube the fuel ports are closed and air is admitted to the engine for braking and cooling through ports e<8> and ducts e<7> in the valve. A cylindrical part may be formed in the largest diameter of the valve, which cuts off the main air before the fuel; fuel can then be drawn into the engine with a small amount of air through the ports e<8>; or a cylindrical part mav be formed on the smallest forward diameter of the valve thereby cutting off the air before the fuel ports are covered. The annular jet is formed between the body a and the sleeve c, the latter being adjustable to vary the size of the orifice; the adjustment may be effected from the driver's seat in a motor vehicle through the stud d, movable in an inclined slot. The end of the sleeve may be V-shaped, entering a corresponding recess formed in the tube. A perforated extension m can be attached to the valve. Fuel is supplied from a float chamber through the valve-controlled hole j<1>, Fig. 3, to a duct j; air admitted through the replaceable nipple l<3> mixes with the fuel in the duct j before it is delivered to the annular chamber b.
