Abstract

178,594. Drevet, C. Jan. 31, 1921. Vacuum apparatus for raising liquid comprises a chamber 1 connected by a pipe 6 to a source of suction and by a pipe 7 to the liquid to be raised. A float 2 is supported by and between two truncated conical valves 4, 5, controlling respectively the admission of atmospheric pressure and the discharge of liquid. The float is .guided by a rod 15 provided at its lower end with a throttle valve which is normally open and may be closed by means of a screw and nut 16. The rod is spring-mounted to prevent closing of the valve by the jolting of the vehicle on which the apparatus is mounted. The float is divided into two chambers by a diaphragm 9, the upper chamber 10 being air-tight while the lower one 11 is open to the atmosphere through holes 13 and the float tube 3. When the float rises, liquid enters the chamber 11 through the lower end of the tube 3 and holes 13, so that the float gradually falls and closes the valves 4, 5.
