Abstract

178,549. Blain, T. R. Jan. 18, 1921. Liquid-meters.-The piston of a meter is longitudinally divided into compartments d<2>, d<1>, Fig. 7, communicating directly with the inlet and outlet ports b, c respectively, and having valve-controlled communication with the cylinder spaces at the opposite ends of the piston. The oscillating valves s are connected by rods u and carried by lever arms v, w. When the piston approaches one end of its stroke, a tripping-member x<1> forces back a spring-controlled plunger y<1>, until the member is moved out of contact with the plunger by means of a bevelled stop, when the spring forces the plunger forward to cause it to strike the lever arm and reverse the valves. In another form, the partition of the piston is formed with a central sleeve having ports e<1>, e<2>, e<3>, e<4>, Fig. 3, adapted to co-operate with ports f<1>, f<2>, f<3>, f<4> in a tube f slidable relatively to the piston. As the piston approaches the end of its stroke, a bolt a<3> or a<4> engages a member f<5> or f<6> and moves it into the tube f against the action of a spring g, the tube f being prevented from motion, until spring- pressed locking members l or m are moved out o! locking position by contact with inclined members a<1> or a' on the end of the cylinder.
