Abstract

178,395. Bacher, G. E. Oct. 6, 1920. Reservoirs in crank casings.-The crank casing of an internal-combustion engine is divided into two parts in a plane perpendicular to the crankshaft, the division passing through an oil sump 1, which is formed as a rib partly encircling the crank casing. The bosses 2 for the connecting- bolts are internal. Crank-chamber pressure is admitted to the sump and oil is delivered to the cylinders through registering grooves 4 in the meeting-faces of the two parts.
