Ticket punches. - The operating-lever e with thumb-piece f is connected with the punch-slide d by a link h sloted to accommodate the main spring m, for returning the parts to normal position. The link h carries a full-stroke double pawl s alternately engaging ratchet teeth u<2> and steps u<3> on a member u pivoted on a pin u<1> on the base-plate a. The spring m is mounted on a rod o projecting downwards from a bearing-plate n, and at its lower end bears on a block p having an extension telescoping into the rod o. The face q of the block p bears on a squared boss r of the bell-hammer l, which is pivoted to the base-plate and is provided with a lug l<1> adapted to be over-ridden by a tooth t<4> on the back of the pawl s. During the downward movement of the lever e the pawl s descends with the link h and is pulled towards the teeth u<2> by a light spring t<3>. The tooth t<4> releases the lug l<1> just before the end of the downward stroke to allow the spring m to actuate the hammer. On the return stroke the hammer lug l<1> forces the lower pawl t<2> into contact with the steps u<3> to prevent reversal. The usual counter is actuated from a lug x on the link h.
