Ticket punches.-A double-acting detent is provided which serves to prevent operation in the absence of a ticket and also the return of the punch slide until a full stroke of the punch has been made. The counter is operated by a longtoothed ratchet-wheel, the rotation of which is partially effected by a pawl on the punch slide and completed by a spring detent which also serves as a bell hammer. As many parts as possible are carried on the back plate of the punch to facilitate assembling, and the sides of the ticket slot are flared to prevent choking. Fraudulent return of the punch slide bv a manual upward movement of the operating-lever is prevented by the provision of a single lug on the punch slide which is engaged on the down-stroke of the lever by a projection thereon. Normally the punch slide F, housed in a groove in the back-plate G, is held in the raised position by a spring H and is depressed by a lever B pivoted at b<2> to the back-plate and provided with a pin and roller b<1> engaging a lug f<2> on the slide. Pivoted at f<5> to the slide F is a double-acting detent K held in the position shown in Fig. 4, to lock the punch in the absence of a. ticket by engaging with a notch g<2> in the back plate, by. a spring k<1> resting on the flat top k<2> of the detent. The punch P, provided with two prongs p<2>, p', carries a feeling device p<1> which, in the presence of a ticket, raises the spring k<1> from the detent and allows a weaker spring k<3> to. rock the pawl from the notch g<2> and bring a tooth k' thereon into engagement with a notch or notches j<1> in the die J. Return of the slide F is thus prevented until the punch has completed its stroke and the spring k' has, through the feeler p<1>, forced the punched out portion of the ticket into a receptacle in the casing, at the same time removing the detent K from engagement with the notch j<1>. Actuation of the counter is partially effected by the engagement of a spring-pressed pawl o' on the slide F with a long toothed ratchetwheel d<2>, the movement of which is completed by a spring detent 0 carried by the bracket by which the counter is secured to the back plate. A hammer o<1> on the end of the spring detent serves to ring a bell E on the casing. To prevent clogging of the ticket slot N, this may be made wider at the inner end and is flared at the sides n<2> thereof as shown in Fig. 11.
