Abstract

175,986. Backhaus, H. Feb. 22, 1922. Engines working on special systems or cycles. -In a condensing engine utilizing exhaust steam and directly operating a compressor 2 which compresses the unused portion of the exhaust and returns it to the boiler or other vessel, the distributing-valve 3 is worked with constant cut-off so that the speed of the engine varies with the exhaust supply. At low speeds when the condenser vacuum decreases, apparatus operated thereby opens the compressor suction valves 6 to ensure the engine running.
