Abstract

175,982. Gendebien, L. Feb. 23, 1921, [Convention date]. Sticks. - An umbrella stick adapted to be cranked or offset at will, to bring the umbrella close to the user's head, is formed of steel tubes 1, 2, 3 or the like hinged at 13, 14 and accommodating a link 11, by which the stick may be held straight or cranked, as shown. In operation, a ring or sleeve 5, slotted throughout its whole length and mounted on the central tube, is rotated until the slot comes apposite the link 11, when the umbrella can be cranked. The ring is again rotated so that its slot is not opposite the, link 11, which is thereby locked in the cranked position. The link 11 pivots on a pin 12 and engages with pins 8 in the outer tubes 1, 2. The split ring 5 has one or more stops to engage with projections on the central tube.
