Reeds.-In weaving velvet - pile carpets, lateral movement of the pile-warp threads i s effected by means of flexible reed dents 7 secured at their lower ends to a bar 8 fixed to the lay bottom, the upper ends of the dents 7 being passed through the teeth of a member or members 11 on the upper bar of the reed. This bar is moved laterally by mechanism described, and each member 11 may be centrally pivoted at 54 so that it can assume an inclined position to accommodate the inclined reed dents; or it may be capable of free vertical and slight lateral movement. A reed having its dents bent or formed zig-zag at their upper ends may be used.
