Abstract
238,916. Platt Bros. & Co., Ltd., and Austin, F. W. March 28, 1924. Weft-inserters not carrying bobbins, cops, and the like, looms with.-The weft-inserting needle or the lower needle 15 is guided and supported during its travel through the shed by guiding- parts formed on or secured to the lay. As shown in Fig. 1, the guiding-device comprises a member 19 adjustably secured to the lay and provided at its upper part with an extension having notches 23 corresponding to the spaces between the dents of the reed. The notches are formed by spaces between ribs which are channelled to receive the needle. In a modification, the ribs 25, Fig. 5, slope towards the reed 26 and form with the extension 22 of the member 19 a channel to guide the needle 15. In another form, the guide for the needle is formed of a bent plate 29, Fig. 6, adjustably secured to the lay. The guiding-devices may rise from the point at which the needle enters the shed to the other end of the lay.
