Abstract

174,556. Rumpler, E. July 16, 1920. Addition to 149,298. Axles and axle structures. - Relates to a motor vehicle having a streamlined body as described in the parent Specification. To lessen air resistance the front axle is of " drop "-shaped or stream-lined cross-section, as shown in Fig. 9. In the modification shown in Fig. 10, the front axle comprises a spring 47 secured to a support 48 on the frame 2 and carrying the swivelling axle-ends 49. The line joining the steering pivots passes through the central cross-section of the spring 47. The spring may be " drop "-shaped in cross-section as shown in Fig. 12, or half " drop "-shaped as shown in Fig. 13.
