Abstract

174,221. Appleton, F. J., and Appleton, G., (trading as Appleton, F. & G.). Nov. 1, 1920. Rolling-machines.-Cylindrical strips of confectionery are moulded into ball shape between two parallel grooved lower shaping-rollers 10, 11 mounted in pairs and upper rollers 9 mounted on a rocking beam 5 so as to coact alternately with the lower rollers, the beam 5 being rocked by levers 7, 8 actuated by a face cam on the shaft 3 driven by worm gearing from a lay shaft 17. The inner rollers 10 are fixed with regard to the frame while the outer rollers 11 are reciprocated to and from the rollers 10, so as to allow the finished product to fall through into a revolving cooling- pan 43, by means of face-cams in the shaft 3 which operate bell-crank arms 25 attached to the bearings 13. Adjustment and transverse removal of the rollers is obtained by mounting the roller 10 on bearings 34 slidable in slots having large recesses 37 and adjustable by set-screws 36, while the outer rollers are similarly mounted in slots 14 having recesses 38 and are detachable without movement of the arms 25 bv means of an upper part 25<x>, Fig. 3, pivoted on the lower part 25 and attached to the bearing 13 by bolts 41 held by wing nuts 42. The rollers 10 are driven by spur gearing on the countershaft 29, the motion being transmitted to the outer rollers by the spur wheels 23 carried on pivoted links 20, 21 and to the upper rollers 9 by means of spur pinions 32 mounted on the spring-controlled arms 33 which engage corresponding pinions on the rollers 10.
