Abstract
173,942. Barnett, W., and Florendine, J. Nov. 20, 1920. Covers, wagon and like.-The covers are hinged to a shaft 2 with a crank arm 4 to which is attached a rod 7 connected with a pivoted arm 8 formed with a bar 10 extending along the side of the vehicle, a tensioned spring 5 being provided, as shown, to partly balance the weight of the lid and to assist its opening movement. The cover is opened by resting a receptacle such as a dust bin on the bar 10 or by the attendant placing his foot in the loop 12, the cover automatically closing when released. In a modification, the members 8, 10 are dispensed with, the bar 7 being guided through a loop secured to the side of the vehicle. The end of the bar is formed with a handle, and the bar has notches to engage the loop so that the cover may be held in the opened and closed position.
