Abstract

173,118. Williams, E., and Ward & Co., H. W. Oct. 19, 1920. Attachments for screwing.-For cutting continuous threads a capstan lathe is provided with an overhead lead-screw a, Fig. 1, in addition to the die-head h. The lead-screw is frictionally mounted in a spring collet c, Fig. 2, which is driven from the lathe spindle through ordinary change gearing. The spring-pressed lead-screw nut j, Fig. 3, is mounted in a bracket f on the capstan g and is adapted to be engaged with the lead-screw by means of a cam spindle k which is retained in the engaged ' position by a spring- pressed pawl n, the latter being tripped to disgage the feed-nut by an adjustable stop q, Fig. 5.
