Abstract
625,081. Screwing. SOC. ANON. DES ACIERIES CI-DEVANT G. FISCHER. Jan. 20, 1947, No. 1836. Convention date, Jan. 25, 1946. [Class 83 (iii)] A screw thread cutting apparatus with rotatable die head, the spindle of which has mounted thereon a screwed sleeve guided by a nut, is characterised in that a ring-gear 4 is keyed to the die head spindle 3 so as to be rotatable therewith and to allow of axial displacement, pinions 19, 22, of different diameter meshing with the ring-gear so that the spindle 3 and ring-gear can be rotated manually either directly or from one of the pinion spindles. The nut 9 is secured in the axial direction by means of a pawl 12 pivoted on the casing 1, the pawl engaging a groove in the nut flange 10 to prevent the nut from rotating. In a modification, the die-head spindle comprises three portions secured together by means of T-shaped heads and recesses, the front portion carrying the die head, the rear portion the ring gear, and the intermediate portion the screwed sleeve with screwed-on nut, the latter being held in a clamp comprising two portions pivoted together so that when the clamp is released the intermediate portion of the spindle can be removed and replaced. Die-heads.-The cam surfaces 55 of a cam disc 54 engage grooves in radially-slidable die-head jaws 56, the socket 53 of the disc 54 having a slot 57 so that the disc can be adjusted circumferentially of the die-head, the disc being secured in the adjusted position by a screw 58.
