[Class 83 (iii)] A work or tool-holding fixture of the collet chuck type comprises an indexing sleeve 30, a spring-pressed collet sleeve 40, a collet cap 50, and a collet 70, the sleeve 40 which has a conical face 41 engaging a corresponding face of the collet being keyed to the indexing sleeve 30 so as to be movable axially thereof and having screwed engagement with the cap 50 which has a face 48 engaging a corresponding face of the collet and has an annular groove 45 which is engaged by dog point set screws 35 provided in the indexing sleeve 30 so that the cap 50 has only a rotary movement relative to the sleeve 30. The latter is rotatably-supported on a body 10 to which it is secured in predetermined angular position by means of a spring-pressed plunger 80. The chuck is opened by engaging the sleeve 30 by the plunger 80 and then rotating an operating-lever 90 provided on the collet cap 50. After inserting the workpiece or tool into the collet, the lever 90 is rotated in the opposite direction to tighten the collet. The plunger 80 can now be disengaged and the indexing sleeve together with the collet cap, collet sleeve, collet, and workpiece, rotated until it assumes the desired position. The collet can be readily removed and replaced by unscrewing the set-screws 35 and removing the collet cap 50 by means of the lever 90 while the plunger 80 engages the sleeve 30.
