Abstract
722,871. Screw-cutting lathes. MASCHWITZ, P., MASCHWITZ, G., and WOLFF, H. Dec. 1, 1952, No. 30414/52. Class 83 (3). A lathe having a lead-screw is provided with a steplessly adjustable feed and screw-cutting device comprising a guideway secured to the bed transversely to the main axis and extending from the bed on the side remote from the lead screw, a first slide block carried by a slide adjustable along the guideway, a lever pivoted to the lead screw nut and passing below the tool slide, this lever having a slideway with which the first slide block engages and a second slideblock also engaging the slideway and pivoted to the underside of the tool slide. Movement of the tool slide 4 is effected by the slide block 15 pivoted at 17 to the lower end of a depending part of the slide. The block is engaged by a slotted link 9 which is pivoted at one end 8 to the split nut 7 carried by the lead screw 5, and connected by the slotted portion at its other end to a further slide block 16 pivoted on a slide 12. The latter is adjustable along an auxiliary guide 11, extending at right angles to the bed and fixed thereto, by a screwed spindle 18 operated by a hand lever 19. A second slotted lever 22 is pivoted to the bed at one end and the slot at the opposite end engages the slide block 13 so that adjustment thereof by moving the slide 12 moves an extension 29 of the lever 22 which operates a dial gauge 24 to indicate the pitch of the thread or speed of feed for which the device is set.
