Abstract
172,759. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Sept. 24, 1920. Heating by electricity.-An electric heating- device of the induction type has a. closed magnetic core formed by an outer shell 10 and a central member engaging the shell by flanges 26, 28 at its ends. The primary winding 13 is situated in the annular space between the shell and the central member and a secondary winding is formed by a layer of copper 17 preferably deposited electrolytically on the inner surface of the shell 10. Longitudinal slots are formed in the central member. The device is shown as an immersion heater supported by a flange 36. In another form, the outer shell as well as the inner member is recessed to take the primary winding. In a further modification, the central member is formed as a tube through which water to be heated is passed. The secondary layer in this case is deposited on the central member and the outer shell is slotted.
