Abstract

257,709. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Charley, R. M. July 13, 1925. Transformers.-Each section of a sandwich type winding for a transformer is formed of a number of conductors 6 arranged in parallel to form a flat layer equal in depth to the radial width of the section - and bent to form a cylindrical or straight sided coil, the conductors being crossed over at the centre 5 of the section so that the conductors forming the inner half of the section at one end are transferred to the outer half, and vice versa. Some or all of the conductors may be insulated to avoid eddy current circulation between conductors of a layer, and the layers are separated by insulating distance pieces 3 to permit circulation of cooling oil between layers.
