Abstract

172,528. Martin, P. W. Dec. 14, 1920. Milling - lathes. -A screw-thread, such as an internal thread on a shell, is cut off by a cutter 6 rotated by a pulley 8. The cutter is advanced into the work by the usual rack and pinion gear 13, and a lever-operated screw 21 is then rotated, which clamps two jaws 19, 20, on the carriage 10, to a bar 18 which is attached to the nut 17 on the lead screw 15. The cutter is then fed laterally to the work by a hand-operated micrometer screw 22. The clamping arrangement may be between the bar and the nut 17, in which case the bar is fixed to the carriage 10.
