Abstract
172,083. White, A. E., (Newman Clock Co.). Aug. 24, 1920. Indicating and recording mechanism, applications of.-Relates to supervisory or indicating and recording mechanism for valves, more particularly for automatic sprinkler systems, and consists mainly in means whereby a record-producing key or the like is made accessible, for use in connection with a watchman's tell-tale clock, only when the valve is in its normal (open) position. For this purpose the valve handle is fitted with a cylindrical box 18, Figs. 2 and 5, and the top of the screwed valve spindle 14 with a container 20 having a hinged door 21. When the valve is in the abnormal (closed) position, shown in Fig. 2, the key and its attachment chain are enclosed within the container which is drawn down within the box 18. In the open position, Fig. 5, the door 21 can be opened to obtain access to the key 26. In this arrangement the top of the container 20 carries a visible indicator plate with the word " open " thereon, which is exposed in the open position of the the valve. A hinged plate 29 with the word " shut " thereon is projected beyond its shield 30, as shown, in the closed position of the valve. Fig. 4 shows means for adjustably connecting the key container 20 to the valve spindle 14.
