Abstract

Boat raising and lowering gear. - Pulley tackle, more particularly for lowering boats, comprising a top block and a suspended lower block, is provided with means on the lower. block for raising or lowering that block independently of the hauling part of the fall. The standing part 3a, Fig. 2, of the fall 3 instead of being fixed to the block is wound round a compensating drum 4 which can be rotated by worm gear 6 and a chain 10 to adjust the height of the block. The worm-wheel 6 and the drum 4 are fixed on the shaft on which the pulley sheaves rotate freely. Instead of being controlled by gearing, the compensating drum may be braked, in which case the block can only be lowered by this means. For lowering boats, two tackles are employed with a single fall, as shown in Fig. 4, a compensating drum being provided on the lower left-hand block, round which the fall is wound a few turns. The diagonal part 11<c> of the fall serves as a life line. In a modification the part 11<c> connects either the two lower or the two top blocks. A compensating drum may be employed in each tackle.
