Abstract
171,179. Hickman, K., and Imperial Trust for the Encouragement of Scientific and Industrial Research. Aug. 11, 1920. Addition to 163,381. Siphons. - The apparatus described in the parent Specification is modified so that the operation of the ejector or other device that primes the siphon is controlled by the level of the liquid in the receptacle, so that a predetermined volume is discharged at intervals, and means may also be provided to cut off the supply during discharge. In the form in which priming of the siphon a, c, b, Fig. 1, is effected by a part of the inc o m in g liquid which is diverted through a chamber k to a fall-tube h, the chamber k communicates with the siphon through a valve l, which is opened by a float n when the liquid in the vessel p reaches a given level. Priming of the siphon is then effected, and the vessel discharged. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the ejector r communicates with the siphon a, c, b through a valve l which is opened by a float n when the liquid reaches the desired level, thus priming the siphon and starting discharge. The supply-pipe may be provided with a cock s, which is shut by means of an arm t, a link u, and a rod v connected to a hinged plate w, when the plate w is lifted by the discharge from the siphon.
