Abstract

170,648. Herbert, Sir A., and Vernon, P. V. July 22, 1920. Milling.-A circular table A, Fig. 2, fitted with two work-holders disposed at 180‹, is mounted on the main table B<2> of a milling-machine and is rotated during the idle return thereof by ratchet mechanism A<30> driven through gearing from the shaft O, which is also mounted in the main table and is rotated bv the engagement of a fixed roller D<4>, Fig. 1, with the helical groove D<3>. The table A<3> is locked during the cutting traverse by a spring-pressed bolt A<5>, the latter being disengaged prior to indexing, by rack-andpinion gearing, from the quadrant lever A<12>, which may be operated by hand, or automatically by an adjustable stop A<15> op the fixed bracket C<2>. The locking pressure on the pad A<16> which additionally clamps the rotary table in the indexed position is applied through an eccentric spindle A<18>, Fig. 4, by a spring-pressed rod A<19>, and is released by a hand lever A<32> or by the engagement of an adjustable collar A<22> with the bracket C<2>. Change-feed and reverse gears are provided for the main table B<2>.
