291,331. National Acme Co., and Drissner, A. E. Dec. 20, 1926. Divided on 287,248. Lathes. - In a multiple-spindle turret-lathe such as a screw machine, the work turret 13 carrying five rotary spindles 14 is provided with a locking-bolt and a latch bolt located below the centre line of the turret and at opposite sides and opposite ends thereof. The front end 10 of the bed carries a bearing-bracket 15 within which is journaled a tubular shaft 16 enclosing the driving-shaft 17 and carrying a five-sided tool-carrier 18. A bracket 19 depending from the rear of the tool carrier is provided with a foot 20 guided on a hardened plate 23 secured to the flattened top surface 21 of the curved bed 11. A shaft 26 removably secured to the bracket 19 has a bearing in the bracket 15 and is operated to reciprocate the tool slide by means of a cam 32 on the main cam shaft 33, the forward movement being positively limited by adjustable lock nuts 30 mounted on a screwed shaft 28 passing freely through the member 15. The turret is indexed by a cam-operated lever 81 in the manner described in Specification 251,315. The locking-bolt 92 sliding in a boss on the turret casing 12 coacts with a series of recesses 93 and is operated by cams 88 - - 90 and lever 85. The bolt 92 is first moved inwardly by the cam 89 to arrest the rotation of the turret whereupon the cam 88 comes into operation to force the bolt on to its seating to prevent vibration or recoil of the turret. At the opposite end of the turret is located a spring-pressed latch bolt 95 which coacts with the locking bolt in holding the turret securely during working operations.
