i Claim.
My invention relates to tool supports and more particularly to supports adapted for attachment to tool dressing machines.
One of the principal objects of my invention is to provide a tool support adapted for attachment to tool dressing machines equipped with means for presenting the tool to be dressed in proper tool dressing position to the dressing element.
Another object of my invention is to provide an attachment of the above described character which is easily attached to tool dressing machines already in use without modifying the structure of said machine.
A further object of my invention is to provide an attachment of the above described character equipped with means whereby tools of various sizes may be accommodated and presented fordressing.
A still further object oi my invention is to pro vide an attachment oi the above described char acter which is simple in construction, durable in operation and economical in manufacture.
Still another object of my invention is to provide an attachment of the above described character which minimizes operating time and maxi mizes uniformity in tool dressing.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawings.

In teaching my invention, I utilize for the purpose of illustration and description a dressing ma.- chine of typical construction commonly known as a grinder. The grinder is joined with a standard 5 having a shelf 6 on which is mounted a bearing block 1 provided with bearings 8. A shaft S is journaled in the bearings and is adapted for rotation therein by means of a pulley i0 secured thereon between said bearings, said pulley being-operated from a suitable source of power (not shown) through the medium oi a drive belt ii. tending lugs l3 for supporting thereon my tool support attachment ill by means of brackets it adjustably connected thereto by bolts and nuts il'l.
My tool support attachment comprises a longitudinally extending bed comprising a body it formed with a groove in which is adjustably mounted an arm M. The arm is formed with longitudinally extending slots 22 for receiving therethrough adjusting bolts 23 carried by the lower section of the body and provided with suitable nuts for clamping the arm thereto. The body and arm are preferably constructed of Wood, the upper surface of the arm' being provided with metal wear plates for engagement with washers carried on the bolts and interposed between the nuts and plates, lhe wear plates function to prevent the washers penetrating or deforming the upper surfaces of the arms-due to the binding action of the bolts and nuts-thereby permitting a smooth adjustment of relation to the body.
A pair of parallel sill members 2 3 are attached to the sides of the arms 2i and are adapted for sliding engagement with the upper face of the bed. The sill members are connected together at their forwardly extending ends in a spaced rela tion by means of a spacer 263.
Mounted on the sill members and having sliding engagement therewith is a tool table 22, the lower face of which is formed with a spacing section 28 engaging the inner side faces of the sill members and coacting therewith to guide the travel of the table in a direction to or from the dresser i2. The table is formed with an elongated slot 29 for receiving therein a plate 39 constructed of metal and formed with a cen- 35 tral aperture registering with a slot 3i formed in the section 28. Mounted on the plate 30 is a, sleeve 32 adapted to be positioned within the central aperture of a circular saw 33 and functioning to maintain the saw on the table. The plate 30 and sleeve 32 are adjustable relative to the table -21 and section 28 by means of a bolt and nut 34 securing the plate 36 in sliding engagement within the slot 29, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 4. A plurality of collars 35 are spaced about the sleeve 34 and secured to the upper surface of the table by means of suitable screws and function to space the saw from the table to prevent the teeth of the saw, which are set, from engaging the upper surface of the table and marring the same. Also by maintaining the saw in raised position an easy adjustment thereof is obtainable. A latch 35 constructed of resilient material is secured at one side of the table adjacent the saw and is formed with an offset end 36 for engagement with the saw between the teeth thereof to lock the saw in an adjusted position on said table.
Secured to the arm 2| and extending laterally thereof is an adjustable stop 31 having an offset section 38 adapted to engage the inner side face of the table 21 to limit movement of the table in the direction of the dresser.
The upper and lower faces of the section 28, adjacent the slot 3|, are provided with suitable metal wear strips for effecting an easy adjustment of the plate 30.
In use, a circular saw having worn teeth is positioned on the table about the sleeve 312, the table moved towards the dresser I2 and the plate adjusted to position the saw in a manner so that the wheel i 2 will operate against the cutting face of a particular tooth. The arm 2i is adjusted relative to the body to properly position the table longitudinally in order to eilect a proper dressing position for the saw. Completed adjustment of the arm 2| and sleeve 32 permits of the table feeding the saw into dressing engagement with the dresser, the latch 35 locking the saw against relative movement. Upon retracting movement of the table, the latch is disengaged from saw, the saw rotated a sufilcient distance to present another tooth in dressing position and the latch manipulated to again lock the saw. Continued operation of the parts in the above described manner effects a speedy and uniform grinding or dressing of the saw teeth.
While I have described and illustrated my invention in connection with the grinding or dressing of a circular saw, it is to be distinctly understood that the invention lends itself to many other types of tools and work and that various changes and modifications may be resorted to without. departing from the spirit of the inven tion or scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A device of the character described, comprising, in combination, a tool dresser having a rotatable dressing element; and a tool support comprising a bed having laterally extending brackets adjustably secured to said dresser whereby to adjust said support laterally relative to said element, said bed fashioned with a longitudinally extending shoulder having an upper face, a longitudinally extending arm on said bed adjacent said shoulder and movable therewith and adjustable lengthwise relative thereto, laterally extending spaced sill members secured to said arm above said shoulder for supporting and sliding engagement with the upper face of said shoulder, a tool table slidably mounted on said sill members for transverse movement over said arm and bed and fashioned with an elongated slot, a sleeve for positioning a saw on said table, collars carried by said table and adapted to support a saw and maintain the latter in spaced relation with the upper surface of said table, a plate slidable within said elongated slot and connected to said sleeve and said table whereby to adjust a saw relative to the end of said table adjacent said dressing element, a stop adjustable on said bed for limiting the movement of said table towards said dressing element, and a latch on said table coacting with said sleeve whereby to secure the saw in locked position on said table to effect a dressing of a desired tooth of said saw, said table formed with a subjacent section slidably engaging said sill members for guiding the travel of said table to work achieving position.
