Abstract

1301260 Machine tool details W O M JONES 22 Nov 1969 29407/72 Divided out of 1291561 Addition to 1291561 Heading B3B A machine tool has a stop device for controlling the stroke and rate of feed of an assembly 20, e.g. a tailstock, headstock, or saddle and the speed of rotation of a chuck or spindle, the device comprising a drum 10 having a number of keys 27 and a flange 24 perpendicular to the keys a removable setting strip 12 on each key and held against the flange, a stop block 14 adjustably mounted on a strip 12 so as to engage and stop assembly 20, the position of the block 14 having been set to a predetermined position relative to the end of the strip 12 and means 44 for rotatably indexing drum 10. Each key is secured on the drum by screws 26. A small air bleed valve 112 is provided in a block 74 which is adapted to actuate a valve controlling the feed rate so as to prevent damage to the stop mechanism. Chamfered block 16 slides along the strip, is secured in the required position by screws 68, and is adapted to control the limit of quick traverse by engagement with a roller 80. The position of block 64 and stops 30, 32 is checked and preset remote from the machine tool. The drum is indexed by a pawl-and-ratchet 44. Drum 10 is connected to reference flange 24 by a sleeve 25, and the indexing pawl mechanism 44 is applied to the drum at the left hand end as shown. Each strip 12 comprises a rack which is located and secured on a key 27, and each stop block 14 is formed with rack teeth adapted to co-operate with the rack teeth on strips 12. A block 14 is placed on strip 12 as close to the desired position as the teeth permit, and is locked by a screw 68, fine adjustment is then effected by a screw 56. A feed start block 16 can be positioned on each strip which actuates a roller 80 for controlling the limit of quick traverse. Buttons 30, 32, on the strips control the valves 94, 96, governing the tool feed, and rotational speed of the chuck or spindle of the machine tool.
