Abstract

1,184,308. Copy-milling. W. PHILIPP. 16 Aug., 1968 [16 Aug., 1967; 17 Feb., 1968], No. 39423/68. Heading B3K. In a copying machine tool the tracer 8 and tool 3 are coupled either rigidly or by means of a pantograph 5, 6 and the tracer (or alternatively the tool) is slidably carried on a rotating rail 15<SP>1</SP> and is fed incrementally once each rotation of the rail so as to follow a substantially spiral path over the pattern 30. Feed of the tracer along the rail 15<SP>1</SP> is effected by screw and nut 17, 18 operated once each rotation of rail 151 by ratchet and pawl 21, 22 and lever 23 which co-operates with a stationary but adjustable cam 25. Automatic or manual control means 33 are provided for regulating the rate of rotation of the rail 15<SP>1</SP> by means of driving motor 14<SP>1</SP> so that the tracer speed may be maintained constant or regulated as desired. A stop 29 is provided for centring the tracer on the axis of rotation of the rail 15<SP>1</SP> and a limit switch 38 is provided for stopping the machining operation when the tracer has reached the outer limit of its travel. More than one cam may be used to give a more truly spiral path.
