Abstract

1,262,106. Copying lathes; compensating for tool wear. EDOUARD DUBIED & CIE S.A. 20 Feb., 1969 [28 Feb., 1968], No. 9228/69. Headings B3B and B3T. In a machine tool such as copying lathe having an hydraulically actuated template controlled tool slide 1 means is provided to automatically correct the position of the cutting tool 5, e.g. due to wear, which comprises a gauge member 7 which is preset to a dimension directly related to the axis of rotation of the workpiece and against which the tool may be contacted. The member 7 is integral with a micrometric probe 8 which is connected in a control circuit and which includes a comparator 13, control means 14 and a motor 15. Any variation from the required dimension detected by the gauge 7 and probe 8 is indicated by the comparator 13 which supplies signals to the control means 14 which in turn actuates the motor 15 which operates a screw or ratchet mechanism 16 to move the template feeler 2 relative to the template 3, thereby correcting the slide 1 and in consequence the cutting tool 5. The correct position of the tool is indicated by the comparator 13 by way of a signalling lamp or other means. The gauge member and probe are secured to a movable element which is securable to the machine bed or tailstock 10 so as to be displaceable in and out of a gauging position.
