Abstract

169,581. Taylor & Jones, Ltd., and Pickersgill, W. July 30, 1920. Surface and outline gauges. - A device for gauging the accuracy of gear teeth comprises a member a having a gap b of width to span a correct gear tooth at the pitch line, and a member c movable relatively to the member a and adapted to engage the crown of the tooth, means being provided for indicating the movement of the member c. The member c is formed with a micrometer screw and is moved by a nut f located in a slot in the gapped member. A lock-nut h is also provided. The member c is provided with a scale co-operating with an index line in a plate secured to the member a. The zero of the scale is so arranged that when .used, as shown in Fig. 1, on a correct tooth the member c will engage the crown of the tooth when the gap spans it at the pitch line.
