Abstract
865,285. Linear-dimension gauges. BAKER, E. May 13, 1959, No. 16464/59. Class 106 (2). An engineer's gauge comprises a guide 1, 2, a slider movable along the guide, the slider comprising two parts 6, 7, the first of which can be fixed in one of a number of equally-spaced positions along the guide and the second of which includes a measuring member 7 and is movable relatively to the first part 6 by a micrometer screw adjustment 25, and a rotary indicator 37 having a number of teeth 46 and indicating- marks 100, the micrometer screw adjustment having a tooth 47 which engages with one of the teeth 46 at the end of each complete turn to rotate the member 37 and alter the positions of the marks 100. The guide rail 1 is formed with notches 5 and these are engaged by a plunger 14 to set the part 6 at any one of a number of positions spaced by one tenth of an inch. The micrometer screw (not shown) has a pitch of onefortieth of an inch and so four complete turns are sufficient to move the gauging member 7 through one-tenth of an inch. The amount of movement of the member 7 is indicated by the position of the numbers on a knurled wheel 25 engaging the micrometer screw and by the marks 100, which comprise 0, 25, 50, 75. After four turns in one direction, the screw-thread reaches the limit of its travel. Zero adjustment by use of nuts 30, 31, is provided.
