Abstract

Levels.-In a variable-bubble level for use with sextants &c., the liquid-chamber has means for regulating its capacity in an hermetically sealed manner, and the bubble chamber is initially charged with de-aerated liquid and is then sealed off full of liquid, so that a bubble of gas or vapour of the liquid of any desired size may be formed by adjusting the regulating-means so as to increase the capacity of the liquid-chamber. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the liquid-chamber 3, which can be sealed off by the tube 6, is closed by top and bottom lenses 5 and has a flexible wall which can be adjusted by the screwed parts 7, 8. Backlash is taken up by a spring 11. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the chamber 3 communicates with an auxiliary chamber 4 containing a a flexible diaphragm which can be adjusted by the screwed parts 9, 10.
