Abstract

168,492. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). July 21, 1920. Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-Packing of labyrinth type for a turbine &c. shaft consists of spaced discs 9, mounted on the shaft and carrying axially extending rings 10 which enter grooves turned in discs 13 spaced apart by rings 15<a> and clamped between the wall 6 and a flange 11 on a housing 12 secured to the wall. Packing flanges 16 are formed by securing a thin nickel &c. disc to the projecting rings 14 on the discs 13, by copper brazing or otherwise, and turning annular slots in the nickel disc for the passage of the rings 10.
