Impact pulverizers.-A pulverizer for coal &c. has coaxially-disposed sets of impactors mounted on separate and coaxial shafts driven in opposite directions within a casing, one of the shafts forming channels for the passage of the coal &c. to and from the centre of the impactor casing. As shown, the main shaft 3 carries a wheel or disc provided with impactors 5 round its periphery, and the feeding-device 2 at the lower part of the hopper 1 is driven through belt gearing from the shaft 3. The hollow shafts 8 enter the stationary casing 16 and terminate therein in disc portions between which impactors 10 are mounted. The impactors 5, 15 are disposed concentrically, and one of the shafts 8 is driven through spur gearing 11, 12 from the shaft 3. Coal fed by the distributor 2 is conveyed by a pipe 13 to one of the shafts 8, within which is arranged a screw 14. The pulverized coal is withdrawn from the centre of the casing 16 through the other hollow shaft 8 by a fan 6 mounted on the shaft 3, and is discharged through a pipe 15. The casing is lined with a replaceable lining-sleeve 17. In a modification, Fig. 2, the impactors are arranged in parallel rows or circles, each row or circle being mounted on a disc. The central row or circle of impactors 5 is driven in the opposite direction to the outer row or circle of impactors 10.
