Abstract
589,554. Seed-sowers. COETZEE, M. J. U. July 24, 1944, No. 14139. Convention date, Aug. 19, 1943. [Class 6 (i)] Relates to seed-sowing machines of the type in which seed and fertilizer are supplied from separate rotary distributors to a common seed furrow. According to the invention, the distributors are mounted coaxially upon and driven by a land wheel axle, clutch members being provided for interrupting, at will, the drive to the distributors. In the form shown, the seed distributor, see expanded view, Fig. 4, comprises an apertured seed ring 7 rotated by the axle 1 of a land wheel 6 through a clutch plate 9 and housed within a casing 2. Seed is fed from a hopper 18 into the interior of the ring through an inlet 17. Pockets of seed carried round by the ring are discharged in turn through an aperture 23 in the casing each seed-ring aperture being closed by a spring-controlled flap 24 as it registers with the outlet 23. The fertilizer distributor, shown expanded in Fig. 3, comprises a vaned rotor 34 rotated by the axle through a clutch 40, the spaces between the vanes being filled, from a hopper 42, with fertilizer which is discharged through an aperture 43 in the casing 3. The clutches 12 and 40 are operated by a lever system 56, 57.
