Abstract

167,591. Robson (Shipley), Ltd., J., and Hinde, W. J. May 13, 1920. Lever-actuated pumps; adjusting time of operations; regulating delivery by by-passes; regulating delivery by closing suction valves; regulating delivery by opening suction valves; valves, arrangement of; suction reservoirs. - In a fuelpump for internalcombustion engines, the time of feed and quantity of liquid fed are regulated by means of a sleeve 7 moving with the plunger 4 and provided with an inclined end 7b which controls a passage 19 in the body of the barrel between the fuel-reservoir 3 and the pump chamber 6. The sleeve is revolubly connected to the plunger and is adapted to be rotated by the governor, as by a rack and quadrant, to vary the time at which delivery begins by closing the port 19<a> of the passage 19. The sleeve has also an inclined slot 7<a>, which varies the time at which delivery ceases by opening the port 19a and thereby varies the quantity delivered. The actuating-lever 11 is pivoted on a pin on an eccentric 14, which may be adjusted to vary the time of delivery. In another form, the plunger is provided with two inclined edges and the barrel or the plunger is rotatable by the governor.
