Abstract

Planes and the like, construction and arrangement of; steering, balancing, and regulating altitude.-In a plane in which an auxiliary wing section 7 is adapted to be moved to or from the front edge of the main section 1 to close or open a slot extending transversely of the line of flight, as described in Specification 157,567, the pivots 3, 5 which connect the parallel arms 2 to the main section 1 and the auxiliary wing 7 respectively are arranged at an angle to one another, and the pivots 5 support the auxiliary wing 7 through bolts 6 which can turn about their axes within the auxiliary wing. This construction causes the angle between the chord of the main wing and the chord of the auxiliary wing to be reduced as the auxiliary wing is closed on to the main wing, and enables the auxiliary wing to fit snugly upon the main wing when the slot is closed, while providing a wider opening on the under surface of the plane than on the upper surface when the slot is open. The pivots 3 on the upper and lower planes of a biplane may be formed as a continuous vertical shaft which can be operated by the aviator through bevel gearing.
