Abstract

Four - stroke - cycle engines; cylinders, cooling and construction of; crank chambers.-Cylinders d are mounted upon a crank case a constructed of substantially cylindrical form and slotted at x along its length to provide a transverse passage-way for the driving- mechanism during dismantling after the cylinders have been removed. A closing-plate a<2> is fitted in one end of the slot. The crank case is closed at its ends by cover plates b which support roller bearings for the crank shaft. An end casing u encloses a chain drive between the crank shaft and a cam shaft m. The cylinder head f is surrounded by a water jacket which is connected to the cylinder jacket by a pipe i. Horizontally arranged inlet and exhaust valves are provided in the cylinder head in - which the admission and outlet passages are disposed side by side and above the valves.
